Ocean Data Course

EOSC 595F – Ocean Data: Observations, Analysis, Synthesis and Communication

  • 3 credit course (one semester), required of all PRODIGY students
  • Curriculum covers state-of-the-art ocean data acquisition and analysis methods, with examples drawn from various disciplines

Learning Goals:

  • Understand and apply the fundamental elements of robust ocean data collection (e.g. sensor calibration, drift correction, quantification of reproducibility and uncertainty)
  • Apply the fundamental elements of data cleaning, filtering, quality-control and archiving
  • Select and employ appropriate tools to analyze and visualize relevant ocean data sets
  • Explore the interface between ocean data and numerical models
  • Demonstrate how ocean observations and models can be used to inform decision making
